uPath.com: What projects are you currently working on?

John Acquaviva: I just finished a new mix CD call from Saturday to Sunday. It is released in Europe…there is a sound bite on my site as well [www.jacq.com]
Do you have a special club or country that you play?

Florida 135 in the area of Barcelona (I am entering my 6th year and play there monthly). 060311 in Frankfurt (I play 4-6 times a year). Turbo in Toronto (after a year and a half at industry I am moving to turbo), Motor in Detroit (one of my newest residencies ...probably bi-monthly), Lush in London ONT (I do various aquaholic nights) as well I play another dozen cites with regular frequencies...

How do Canadian audiences compare to the Europeans?

Canada is more than holding its own of late...Toronto and Montreal especially are some of the best places in the world right now

Do you ever get tired of all the travel? How do you keep yourself motivated?

Well...there are worse jobs that I could list...that pretty much is all I need to keep me going.

How does it affect your family life?

That is tough, especially this year...my oldest son just started school and I do not see him as often, since I have my office and studio at home. I need to find a new balance...

How do you feel about Industry [in Toronto] closing after all these years?

A pity...but time does not stand still. I think the industry guys made an honorable decision. I look forward to my last party there.

Any advice for aspiring DJ's?

Treat your craft and crowds with respect...as well for DJ's who play in clubs....you are an entertainer not a pop star...

What future do you envision for yourself? For the scene?

I just try to evolve along with what is transpiring internationally...so far so good...a pretty simple existence in this case. I feel that I am part of the international body of our movement and will try and be part of the growth...

What are your views on the negative media the Toronto party scene is getting lately, meaning drugs?

It is nothing but a generational struggle...the big irony is that this generation was the most liberal generation and now they are changing their tune...does anyone remember yorkville in the late 60's and early 70's? History repeats itself...

If you weren't a DJ, what would you be doing?

Working as a bank teller or night clerk in a hotel

What do your parents think of your profession?

They don't think it's a profession...I do not come from an artistic family. I think they appreciate that I do not ask them for money...

What are your inspirations lately? What do you recommend?

Every new record I buy and especially new labels and artists are my inspiration...
